Titular lass Claire Danes is coveted by The Unsuitable One (Steve Martin) and The Slightly More Unsuitable One (Jason Schwartzman). Of course, this being based on Martin's novel, it's his moneyed Ray who's given the best chance, splashing his considerable cash to keep her as his own Pretty Woman, albeit with a more respectable profession.
Like a sexed-up Lost In Translation, Anand Tucker's age-ain't-nothing-but-a-number film sweeps effortlessly across the LA skyline, ensnaring its leads as dreamers adrift in a modern metropolis, unhurriedly searching for each other (and themselves). Sadly, the spell cast by an outstanding Danes and the suitably subdued Martin is all too often broken by Schwartzman's over-egged roadie. He's someone who "takes time to get to know, but then once 'got to know' is fabulous." Shame, then, that with only 100 minutes to make his acquaintance, he ends up coming over as little more than a pillock.
