The calibrated tales...

Sibling rivalry comes with a body count in an austere melodrama from Mud director Jeff Nichols.

Three abandoned brothers instigate a blood feud with their father’s sons by another woman – nursing their grievances so bitterly it’s just a matter of time before the titular weapon takes centre stage.

Left without even proper names, Son (Michael J Shannon), Boy (Douglas Ligon) and Kid (Barlow Jacobs) find that revenge is far from sweet in a film boasting grimly compelling turns and a fine feel for its rural Arkansas setting.
