Sleuth

3

This ham-tastic two-hander is adapted from a play by The Wicker Man scribe Anthony Shaffer and evokes some of that film’s delicious eccentricities. Sleuth pits Caine’s young playboy against murder-mystery author Lawrence Olivier (whose wife he’s screwing) in a series of edgy, oh-so-English parlour games in the latter’s country manor. Effortlessly showing Ken Branagh and the team behind the dodgy 2007 remake how it’s really done, this oddity is as twisty-turny as Olivier’s beloved detective stories, although just as frivolous.
