Remember Wonder Boys? Noam Murro clearly does, having built his debut feature around an over-the-hill English prof (Dennis Quaid) who’s the spitting image of Michael Douglas’ Grady Tripp. The déjà vu continues with Ellen Page’s precocious performance as his long-suffering daughter ( Juno without the bump) and Thomas Hayden Church’s Sideways-lite turn as his feckless, loveable adoptive brother. Not too smart to take on better films than your own, but luckily Mark Poirier’s script is witty and spiky enough to compensate. Solid extras include chat-track, Making Of and deleted scenes.
