Do you really need us to tell you how good it is? You do? Well, okay. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are sensational as two in-drag musicians on the run from the mob, their exhilarating spitfire exchanges making this pretty much the best comedy ever made. Marilyn Monroe, as on-the-lam ukulele sexbomb Sugar Kane, is pure cinematic Viagra. The only flaw in writer/director Billy Wilder’s script is the inexplicable decision by one of the boys to step aside, allowing the other an obstacle -free seduction. But, hey – nobody’s perfect.
DVD Extras:
Tony Curtis interview, featurette, Virtual Hall Of Memories.Pretty inconsequential extras, enlivened by American film critic Leonard Maltin's chat with an ageing Curtis, who looks alarmingly like Gary Glitter. Apparently he never actually uttered the infamous "kissing Marilyn was like kissing Hitler" remark. Pity.
