Before he won Oscar respectability with The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia, Jonathan Demme was best known as the hip, playful helmer of Stop Making Sense, Married To The Mob and this savvy addition to the '80s `yuppie in peril' cycle (After Hours, Who's That Girl?).
Jeff Daniels, that epitome of wholesome all-American manhood, plays a New York dweeb who gets more than he bargains for when he accepts a lift from black-wigged wild card Lulu (Melanie Griffith). Pretending to be her husband at her high-school reunion is all well and good, but things take a darker turn with the appearance of her psychotic old sweetheart, Ray Liotta.
Full of sly cameos (including blink-and-you'll-miss-'em turns from Johns Sayles and Waters) and blessed with a sizzling soundtrack, this is one wild ride that only gets better with age.
