Springboarding his super-sprogs into another imaginative adventure, Robert Rodriguez has dreamed up an extraordinary celluloid playpen.
Okay, so the Island Of Dr Moreau-style plot quickly veers into giddy doodles, resembling Nickelodeon: The Acid Years, but there’s some fun to be had. Top spy gadgets, too – bring on Spy Kids 3.
DVD Extras:
There's one word that ping-pongs repeatedly across the special features: creativity. Rodriguez has the stuff on tap. A 10-minute film school sets the ball rolling, but Rod's commentary is even better, gliding from screen specifics into a lecture on how to make movies without humping the cash cow.As for the rest, there's a stunt analysis (seesaws from zap to pap), eight deleted scenes (enjoyable but forgettable) and a handful of lightweight featurettes, where the kids have plenty to say. As, of course, does Rodriguez.
