Star Trek: First Contact

3

After the lukewarm baton-hander Generations, the cast of the Next Generation TV show needed a boot up the rear - - and got it through facing off with the series' best villains. With cybernetic nasties the Borg planning to cancel Earth's future plans with a little time travel, it's up to Picard and co to save humanity. Patrick Stewart quotes Moby Dick as the good captain goes all Die Hard on his personal demons, while the writers tweak continuity by giving the Borg a scary-sexy face in Alice Krige's queen.

DVD Extras:

Paramount wheels out the usual assortment of featurettes - artwork, design and Making Of - while Jonathan Frakes' yak-track is massively disappointing, reducing the usually candid, witty director to merely praising the cast and crew... set your phasers to `dull'. You're better off with the writers' gab. And how often does that happen?
