Blue-collar guy Tom Witzky (Kevin Bacon) undergoes hypnosis for a lark and suddenly finds himself haunted by visions of a missing girl. A traditional supernatural mystery, Stir Of Echoes was, sadly, seen as a poor-man's Sixth Sense. But while it's eerie enough to be undeserving of this dismissive tag, it does rely a little too much on ghost-story clichés.
DVD Extras:
Commentary with director David Koepp, behind-the-scenes footage, three TV spots, Moist music video. The five minutes of behind-the-scenes material is pathetic and the music video is pointless, but thankfully the disc is saved by Koepp's commentary. Instead of taking the familiar tell-funny-little-stories route, he focuses more on simply revealing how a film gets made, from a writer/director's standpoint. Whether sharing the advice he received from Brian De Palma or revealing exactly how he gave the ghost its bizarre movement, it's interesting stuff.
