Dario Argento’s Grand Guignol masterpiece is celluloid dipped in undiluted dread, the fiendish colours, outrageous production design and eerie score – dissonance, chants and nursery chimes courtesy of Italian noisemongers Goblin – combining to strum the nerves. Then tear them to pieces.
