No, we haven't got a clue what the title means either. And that ending? Utterly nonsensical. Still, simple fact is that despite these two caveats, Alexandre Aja's homage to `proper' horror is both the perfect antidote to the genre's dreary post-Scream cynicism and without doubt - - sorry Saw, close but no cigar - - the finest shocker of 2004. Fans of pure slasher gore, make a space on the shelf right now.
DVD Extras:
Making Ofs, talking heads, yada yada. But the main draw here has to be the DVD debut of one Jamie Graham, Total Film's illustrious Features Editor, guiding Aja and leading lady Cécile De France through their commentary. Marvel as he unravels the movie's numerous homages! Gawp as he and Aja ponder modern horror's previous anaemia! Wet yourself laughing as he tries to bring up the masturbation scene with De France without seeming like a pervert! Quality stuff.
