Short but sweet, this indie charmer struts into The Graduate territory for its tale of a precocious teenage boy (X2 firestarter Aaron Stanford) with the hots for an older woman (Sigourney Weaver) - - who happens to be his stepmum.
Stanford elicits sympathy as much as a good slap, while a relaxed Weaver and foxy masseuse Bebe Neuwirth slink through their well-written roles with effortless class. Lensed in two weeks, this DV delight is a little green on the technical front, but it's all grown-up in terms of wit, heart and smarts.
DVD Extras:
Only one add-on, but it's an ear-pleasing, self-deprecating chat-track from director Gary Winick. Encouraging aspiring helmers to learn by his mistakes, he gives an informed guide to shooting a flick in 14 days and avoids drifting into Spodsville. Best bit is his dissection of the dinner-table meltdown scene, which mugs Citizen Kane and Rosemary's Baby for inspiration.
