Tattoo

3

Robert Schwentke's claustrophobic German cop drama has received favourable comparisons to Se7en. And it's easy to see why.

Disaffected rookie Marc (August Diehl) and his tragedy-scarred partner (Christian Redl) find themselves hunting a nutjob through a bleak, rainy, morally ambiguous Berlin. The twist? Their quarry is a tattoo connoisseur who's willing to flay people alive to build his collection.

Despite the now-familiar serial-killer/collector tripe and Jacobean levels of gore, Tattoo squirms its way under the skin with its harrowing morgue sequences and incessant, grim atmosphere. Keep a loofah at the ready...
