Zut alors! Another Taxi film? Erm, yeah, but at least this isn’t a sequel to the shoddy 2004 US remake starring Queen Latifah. Instead, it’s the third instalment of writer/producer Luc Besson’s original Inspector Clouseau-meets-Knight Rider cops’n’cabs caper.Anyone who’s caught an earlier French Taxi will know what to expect from the latest ride, which pits flop-cop Emilien Coutant-Kerbalec (Frederic Diefenthal) and his equally dumb cabbie chum Daniel Morales (Samy Naceri) against a group of fancy-dressing thieves known as the Santa Claus Gang. Yet while it’s all about as surprising as a Police Academy sequel, director Gerard Krawczyk’s formulaic Frenchie isn’t short of Gallic charm, Taxi 3 being well driven by two likeable leads and benefiting from some decent chase sequences, a fun cameo by big Sly Stallone and a sexy supporting turn by Bai Ling.
