The cartoon musical is alive and well and living it up in Denmark. “Piss off and die,” sings one character in Terkel In Trouble, “for you’re an ugly twat and your mummy likes to shag horses!” Which reminds us: keep the kiddies away from this one...
Terkel has been brilliantly adapted into English by Wallace & Gromit writer Mark Burton, with Adrian Edmondson voicing the hapless schoolkid whose life is made a misery by two bullies, not to mention a family so messed-up they make the Osbournes look like the Brady Bunch. With Bill Bailey narrating and Johnny Vegas as Terkel’s alcoholic Uncle Stewart, the humour is surprisingly British. It’s part Grange Hill, part South Park, part Evil Dead – and although the stylised CG world may take some getting used to, it’s worth the effort.
DVD Extras:
Extras include fluffy cast interviews, deleted scenes and a featurette with director Anders Matthesen. Good, dirty fun.
