The 13th Warrior

2

Save for a single impressive battle, there's little to recommend The 13th Warrior, even if it does feature hordes of Vikings hacking at each other. The product of an on-set struggle between writer-producer Michael Crichton and director John McTiernan (Crichton re-shot the last third - and it definitely shows), it features Antonio Banderas in the title role doing little more than more of the same Zorro-style action antics, and actually manages to make Sphere look like a decent Crichton adaptation.

DVD Extras:

Nothing. Not even some sort of apology, which we deserve. The movie itself might be shabbier than a pack of medieval hobos, but the sound mix is a stonker, sending shivers through any room that's equipped with a decent speaker set-up. Other than that, you get a completely forgettable film on a completely forgettable disc.
