“To fight or not to fight?” That’s the question in this Chinese spin-kick on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Daniel Wu is the prince whose dad has mysteriously carked it, while his uncle (Ge You) takes the throne by wedding Wu’s stepmum (Ziyi Zhang). In a melee of machinations, Wu loves Ziyi but wants revenge so – of course – they ruck! But sadly not often enough. Director Feng Xiaogang’s Banquet is sumptuously laid out but lacks real bite, despite an undeniably exhilarating final course.
DVD Extras: Nothing to wash it down with bar a 15-min Making Of.
