After the distinctly lifeless A Life Less Ordinary, the Trainspotting triumverate opted to boost their star power even higher and fall back on an idea that had served them well in the past: adapting a popular novel. The result may not have made quite the splash they hoped for, but it's entertaining enough and filled with lush scenery.
DVD Extras:
Director's commentary by Danny Boyle, deleted scenes with optional commentary, storyboards, All Saints music video, trailer, cast and crew biographies. A decent selection of extras for those who enjoyed the film. Boyle's commentary, while patchy, is informative and he speaks candidly about such varied aspects of the movie as the music and the environmental controversy. The deleted scenes don't really add anything new - - most are simple, small cuts for time - - but the alternate beginning and ending do at least give you an insight into the director's thought processes.
