A ripe slice of '40s noir set in the NY publishing world, with Ray Milland as a mag editor suspected of a murder he didn’t commit and Charles Laughton as his megalomaniac boss.
Director John Farrow makes the most of the neurotic shadows and art deco set-design, besides painting a vivid picture of a stress-ridden, alcohol-soaked society.
Laughton chews the scenery in fine style and there are interesting hints of a homoerotic hook-up with his second-in-command (George Macready). Includes a startlingly naff trailer
