Robert Aldrich makes his feelings about Hollywood clear in this edgy Film Noir

Robert Aldrich’s first independent production mounts a scathing attack on the Hollywood studio system, adapted from Clifford Odets’ equally caustic play.

Jack Palance plays the conflicted movie star who wants out; an equally intense Rod Steiger is the studio head (a cross between Louis B Mayer and Harry Cohn) who’ll use every dirty trick to hold on to him.
