The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975

Like all good mixtapes, it’ll send you scurrying to sample more

The rise and fall of black America’s militant civil rights wing is revisited in Swedish documentarian Göran Olsson’s fascinating assemblage of archive footage, shot by his countrymen over eight turbulent years.

Where US journos neglected to tread, liberal Swedish crews gained unprecedented access to (and unflinching honesty from) charismatic revolutionaries like Stokely Carmichael and Angela Davis.

As the title suggests, this is the rough ’n’ ready highlights of history but, like all good mixtapes, it’ll send you scurrying to sample more.
