The Blues Brothers/Blues Brothers 2000

3

Now, the blues may be based on repetition but 1998's Blues Brothers 2000 took things too far. John Landis pretty much remade the glorious 1980 original - - sharp suits, James Brown, demolition-derby car chases, Nazis - - only with John Goodman instead of the long-dead John Belushi, plus a new (shudder) kid vocalist. The gag-writing is frightful, but you have to concede it's still got some of the old spirit. Its ensemble of flea-bitten old musos seem to enjoy the reunion anyway.

DVD Extras:

Making Of documentaries, trailers, production notes, biogs, photographs and poster campaign (BB2000 only), weblink (BB only). Of most interest are the two documentaries: there's plenty of interesting trivia about the original and plenty of spurious justification for the sequel ("It's about Elwood's loss..."). Great first movie, lame sequel, solid discs - - worth £23? Just about.
