The Bodyguard

3

With its messy plot, paint-stripping theme song and scant chemistry between Whitney Houston's spoiled celeb and Kevin Costner's glum minder, Mick Jackson's glossy thriller shouldn't be the guilty pleasure it is. Maybe it's Whitney's dazzling lusciousness that lifts it above the cheesy '80s thrillers with which it has so much in common. Or maybe it's Costner's tightly-buttoned, hunky white guy reserve, which led one German magazine to vote him "most erotic male".

DVD Extras:

Forget the trailer and the `I Will Always Love You' pop promo and head straight for the 27-minute Memories Of The Bodyguard featurette. Lawrence Kasdan remembers the 67 rejections his screenplay saw before Kevin greenlit the project, Costner talks haircuts and Houston bizarrely talks about herself in the third person. The biggest grin, however, belongs to unctuous soundtrack-meister David Foster as he counts all the units he shifted and the Grammies he won.
