Twelve films on and writer-director Kim Ki-Duk is still tackling the same theme: the thin line betwixt love and hate. The Bow sees Jeon Seong-hwang’s Old Man planning to wed and bed Han Yeo-reum’s Young Girl when she turns 17. Intimately shot, light on dialogue and scored by sombre Korean fiddle, this is lugubrious, languorous viewing. Riveting.
