Among the horrors of the Nazi death camps, a lucky few got drafted into a daring scam to undermine the Allies’ economies with bogus bank notes. This riveting, Oscar-nabbing WW2 drama skilfully puts one forger’s acquiescence against another’s stubborn refusal to aid the Germans. Stefan Ruzowitzky’s thriller combines the Holocaust verité of Schindler’s List with the insider knowledge of Catch Me If You Can, without resorting to Spielberg’s trademark sentimentality. Shame the interviews and doc aren’t as compelling.
