The Crazies

3

Who are The Crazies? The redneck citizens of Cowpoke, USA, whose water supply is accidentally contaminated by a biological weapon, or the gas mask-wearing, boiler-suited soldiers sent in to contain the outbreak? Shot on the fly between the first two instalments of his seminal zombie trilogy, George A Romero's germ-warfare flick may have been slapped together on a shoestring budget but it's still a lean little thriller with plenty of Vietnam-era swipes at the stupidity of the military - not to mention a claret-spurting scene involving a little old lady and her knitting needles.

DVD Extras:

A top-notch commentary track from the director, makes this an essential purchase for Romero's legion of dedicated fans. Which is just as well, as the trailers, film notes, and photo galleries are strictly mediocre additions.
