Unnecessary Hollywood remake #4,321…? Refreshingly, no. This slick, sick retread of George A. Romero’s B-movie strips the 1973 original down and pumps it full of popcorn. Same premise – US bio-weapon turns a redneck town into psycho-zombie central – but the execution swaps the politics for skin-crawling scares (pregnant woman in pitchfork panic). If modern filmmakers must insist on remaking vintage fan favourites for the multiplex time and again, this’ll do as a benchmark.
