The Curse Of The Cat People

5

Here's how to do a sequel

A box office flop on its release, Robert Wise and Gunther von Fritsch’s extraordinary sequel to 1942 horror classic Cat People utilises a few of the same characters but is almost totally removed.

Producer Val Lewton wanted to call it ‘Amy And Her Friend’, the plot focusing on a sensitive young girl (Ann Carter) who’s visited by the ghost of the first film’s Irena (Simone Simon).

Redeploying sets from Orson Welles’ The Magnificent Ambersons, TCOTCP features zero werecats and favours visual poetry over stalk ’n’ slash as it wanders a chimerical netherworld between Cocteau and del Toro.
