This flawed-but-essential fantasy-adventure stands as Muppet master Jim Henson's finest cinematic achievement. The Dark Crystal is famed for the complete absence of human beings in its colourful cast of characters, although you have to admit some of the puppets do look a bit duff (especially the inexpressive Gelflings). Yet this simple fairy story is realised with wild imagination, with an entertainingly wide variety of monstery support.
DVD Extras:
Trailers, 60-minute Behind The Scenes feature, deleted scenes, filmographies, profiles.Superb. The documentary is far more than the backslapping rubbish normally on offer, and the deleted scenes are a very welcome addition. Given the age of the movie, the amount of extra material is impressive, putting some more recent releases to shame.
