The Earth Dies Screaming

This Hammer robot-invasion horror manages to get under the skin...

The Earth Dies Screaming review

As well as a potential spoiler, that melodramatic title misrepresents the thrifty thrills of Hammer-man Terence Fisher’s robot-invasion B-flick.

Planes crash and bodies collapse in the stark, wordless opener; then the focus tightens to a handful of survivors who do the British thing and hole up in a village pub.

It’s over in under an hour, but Fisher finds time to foster character, and atmos-fear – the mechanoids may look like budget Cybermen, but one kitchen appearance will send your hackles sky-wards.
