Uh-oh, Evil is coming, as it does every 5,000 years (don't worry, that's another 250 years away for us), in Luc Besson's lush, busy future of flying cars and big guns. The splendid sets and eye-massaging backdrops are fleshed out by an on-form Bruce Willis, the gorgeous Milla Jovovich and, most of all,the splendid Gary Oldman. Just don't mention Chris Tucker.
DVD Extras:
The lion's share of this double-discer is filled with analysis of the loony special effects and loopy futuristic visuals - two featurettes and a tech-bod commentary. It's all well done, but Besson's absence from the chat-track is a big disappointment. Still, Jean-Paul Gaultier amusingly jumps in to blab about his style contributions and the Making Of doc is good, roping together most of the cast and crew to chart the film's journey from concept to celluloid. Chuck in the usual stuffing - storyboard, production notes, launch-party footage - and you've got a pleasing, if not quite exhilarating, package.
