The Firm - Special Edition

4

Like a screwdriver dragged down the paintwork of quaint ’80s drama, Alan Clarke’s made-for-TV film leaves an indelible mark. Gary Oldman oozes menace as the leader of a gang of well-heeled suburbanites who morph into vicious “bovver boys” when Saturday comes. Splitting his time between the savagery of The Firm and the eroding sanctity of The Family, Clarke’s razor-sharp social critique makes a convincing case: this is England.
