Army investigator John Travolta ploughs into military ethics while checking out the murder of a senior officer's daughter. Though he keeps the story at a pleasingly brisk forward-march, Simon West's bullish direction betrays his action allegiances - subtlety isn't his strength. There's too much crass flashback and Travolta's heroism is pushed at the expense of other, more talented players, especially the peerlessly slippery James Woods.
DVD Extras:
Theatrical trailer, teaser trailer, four deleted scenes including alternative ending, commentary and behind the scenes featurette. The featurette and the commentary are by-the-book, but the four deleted scenes at least prove instructional - their removal clearly shows up West's priorities, while the alternative ending raises character issues which, in the final reckoning, obviously "didn't fit".
