With his Dollars trilogy, Sergio Leone introduced the world to the hyper-violent, overdubbed joys of the Spaghetti Western, and made TV actor Clint Eastwood the biggest star since John Wayne. Now, finally, all three movies - A Fistful Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - have been restored, remastered, and released in digitised form. But it's the final instalment which stands out the most, with its epic, Civil War backdrop, ingenious interplay between its three protagonists, and a deliriously entertaining performance from Eli Wallach as the rat-faced Tuco.
DVD Extras:
14 minutes of unseen footage, original US theatrical trailer, info booklet.Dollars enthusiasts won't be let down by the extra scenes, including Angel Eyes' visit to a rebel fort and Tuco taunting Blondie in the desert. Also, it's amusing to see what a dubbed Clint sounds like. The original US trailer is interesting, too, presenting the film primarily as a Civil War drama and mistakenly tagging Lee Van Cleef as "The Ugly" and Tuco as "The Bad". But, with poifect picture quality, ultra-crisp sound and the lovely widescreen treatment, did you really need anything else?
