Mike Nichols' gloriously iconic rites-of-passage story was the movie that first nudged Dustin Hoffman toward superstardom. He plays startled rabbit Benjamin Braddock, a college track hero who starts an affair with the rapacious wife of his father's boss (Anne Bancroft) before falling in love and eloping with her daughter. Hoffman's naivety ("Mrs Robinson, are you trying to seduce me?") was a crowd-pleaser, as was the Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack.
DVD Extras:
Dustin Hoffman interview, The Graduate At 25 documentary, trailer, Making Of book. Not a disc to be seduced by. The scanty Hoffman interview is just a selection of off-cuts from the documentary, which itself feels hollow without any input from Anne Bancroft or Mike Nichols. And where's the commentary? Or any filmographies? Or a music-only track to highlight Paul Simon's music? Shameful.
