LA parents slowly twig that their nanny is a tree-lovin’, baby-killing druid

Seventeen years after The Exorcist, William Friedkin revisited horror with a shocker that’s part fairytale, part parent-panic pic and all balls-up. The hook? LA parents slowly twig that their nanny (Jenny Seagrove) is a tree-lovin’, baby-killing druid (don’t parents check nannies’ references?). As Seagrove turns into a ciggy-voiced tree, you suspect original director Sam Raimi would’ve brought a more fitting pulp relish to it than Friedkin, who takes the silliness far too seriously. Seagrove and co-writer Stephen Volk look back in bruised amusement on the extras.
