The Hard Word

A messily schizophrenic, low-rent Aussie crime movie, The Hard Word borrows from all the usual suspects (Tarantino, Guy Ritchie) as it flits between black comedy and vicious bloodbath.

Boasting the worst false nose since Fagin, Guy Pearce is the eldest of a trio of thieving brothers, fresh out of jail and forced into One Last Job. Pearce and Rachel Griffiths (as his treacherous wife) do their best to keep things steady, but the sudden lurches in tone and the increasingly ridiculous twists leave you clutching your head to alleviate the giddiness.
