The Killing Of John Lennon

Scrupulously researched as it is, Andrew Piddington’s delve into the psyche of John Lennon’s murderer divines little of interest or insight from an ugly tale, beyond the idea that misunderstanding great literature rarely comes to any good. Here jittery Mark Chapman (an admittedly impressive Jonas Ball) misreads The Catcher In The Rye and pursues an egomaniacal drive to become less of a nobody by killing a “somebody”. It doesn’t get much deeper than that, while Taxi Driver nods highlight Piddington’s lack of focus and purpose.
