The Laramie Project

3

A stellar cast (Peter Fonda, Steve Buscemi, Christina Ricci) assemble for this film version of the US stage hit, inspired by the brutal 1998 murder of gay student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.

Based on 400 hours of interviews with over 200 residents, the result is a compelling piece of reportage that details the devastating effect this infamous hate crime had on Shepard's friends, family and the town at large. There's no denying this is a story that needed to be told - even if Moisés Kaufman's HBO-produced docudrama suffers from a surfeit of mawkish worthiness.

DVD Extras:

Promo spots and featurette, the latter featuring Clea DuVall earnestly telling us this is "probably the most important thing you could watch on TV". Bless.
