The Last Remake Of Beau Geste

Crazy comedy from actor-turned director Marty Feldman

The Last Remake Of Beau Geste review

Having worked under Mel Brooks on Young Frankenstein and Silent Movie, bug-eyed clown Marty Feldman directed his own spoof with this silly take on PC Wren’s novel.

Peter Ustinov and Spike Milligan are among the familiar faces caught up in the craziness after twins Feldman and Michael York (!) enlist in the French Foreign legion.

The result zips along merrily for an hour before running out of steam. Yet it’s still loopy enough to make you hanker for the film Feldman wanted to release, as opposed to this studio-truncated compromise.
