Don’t let the quality teaming of Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda raise your hopes – the wit and sophistication of The Lady Eve scarcely figure in Leigh Jason’s inane comedy-thriller.
Babs is a spoilt socialite given to madcap pranks, so when she happens on a murder the cops won’t believe her.
Meanwhile, Fonda’s newsman denounces her as a specimen of the idle rich.
The stars’ chemistry just about carries it, and Nick Musuraca’s noirish lighting lends the occasional hint of menace.
