The Messenger

Another side of the Iraq conflict...

Messenger review

They’re known as the Angels of Death Squadron.

Whenever a US soldier is KIA, these guys arrive on relatives’ doorstep to break the news.

Ben Foster (electric in 3:10 To Yuma, even better here) is the PTSD-suffering Iraq hero assigned to spend his last three months of duty with toothpick-chewing old hand Capt Stone (Woody Harrelson) in the Casualty Notification Office.

Overshadowed at the Oscars by The Hurt Locker’s explosive action, this is one of the best movies to come out of the Iraq War: a moving, low-key drama about the price of conflict and power of compassion.
