"I actually hated the script when I first read it," admits The Moguls star Jeff Bridges in this amateur porn farce's Making Of. Persuaded by nearest and dearest to ignore instincts honed over three decades of movie-making, he regrettably took the role of a deadbeat dad-turned-porn-producer in one of the least accomplished comedies in recent memory.
Humbled by his ex-wife's wealthy new husband, Andy Sargentee (Bridges) decides to raise some money of his own by making a skin flick with the support of his bar buddies. They brainstorm the key scenes ("lesbo; masturbating; couple in the butt; white girl, black guy...") and set about recruiting female participants - with little luck. And that's it.
Co-stars Joe Pantoliano, Tim Blake Nelson and Glenne Headly are poorly served by both dialogue and plot, with Ted Danson's closet gay Moose the film's one high point. Otherwise, it's left to Bridges to smother the gaps with incessant voiceover. Shameful.
