This Oscar-nommed delight charts everyday heroine Sonja's (Lena Stolze) bid to expose the truth about her hometown during the Nazi era. It's based on a real-life story, but all traces of worthiness are nixed by helmer Michael Verhoeven's restlessly inventive style, which deals in visual gaggery without undercutting the subject matter.
