The Omega Man

Charlton Heston proves his National Rifle Association credentials in this bout of apocalyptic sci-fi, running around armed with a range of heavy artillery and shooting anything with half a pulse.

Based on Richard Matheson's novel I Am Legend, Boris Sagal's film casts Heston as the sole survivor of a viral plague that's turned the rest of the populace into albino mutants. Notable chiefly for the scenes of Heston barricaded inside his penthouse, slowly cracking up as he watches old footage from Woodstock, what really stands out are the racial overtones, the great white hero becoming the ultimate saviour of these predominantly African-American mutants.
