The Oranges

1

Hugh Laurie and Leighton Meester scandalise the 'burbs

Deep in the heart of New Jersey, the lives of two closely linked suburban families are thrown into upheaval when the middle-aged dad of one family (Hugh Laurie) has an affair with the college-age daughter (Leighton Meester) of the other.

Given the premise, The Oranges could go just about anywhere, from bloody, revenge-fuelled mayhem to pitch-black comedy. Unfortunately, it remains in the middle of the road, a lightweight dramedy that feels tailor-made for TV.

The ensemble cast is excellent but seriously, Total Film has been to the suburbs. It’s a nightmare of infighting and depravity out there.

This should be a lot uglier.
