This fast, flashy Biopic about the ’70s all-girl rock band is mainly notable for giving Dakota Fanning her first ‘adult’ role.
As lead singer cherie currie, she’s the headline act, falling in, then out, with guitarist Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart, spot on) and band manager Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon, lizard-like).
Director Floria Sigismondi pumps up the volume, excess and ego, but along with ample substance abuse comes not much substance.
As for Fanning, she nails the early vulnerability but looks like she’s playing dress-up when the time comes to act like a rock chick.
