The Shield Season 5

4

With Glenn Close’s captain getting the bullet at the climax of The Shield’s fourth season, Detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) now finds himself friendless and under fire. Enter a powerhouse Forest Whitaker as tormented, truth-seeking Internal Affairs agent John Kavanaugh, lighting the blue touch paper on a show some fans felt was finally beginning to flag. As per usual, so many shades of grey prevail throughout the series that viewers will find their sympathies and suspicions shifting with every episode – just wait till you see the firecracker finale. Moody and muscular as ever, Chiklis surely deserves to go down as one of TV drama’s great anti-heroes; such a shame he’s best known to most folk for playing a walking orange rockery.
