The Sixth Sense

4

Intelligent, creepy horror from the man with the Mysterious initial. Altogether now: "I see dead people".

There are not many films you want to see again as soon as the credits roll, but M Night Shyamalan's spooky exercise in slippery plotting is certainly one of them. Pulling the ectoplasm over audiences' eyes before the final revelation that you-know-who is you-know-what, this superior slice of psychological horror is one of the best scary movies of the last decade.

DVD Extras:

On an impressive two-disc set, the three high-quality documentaries stand out. Bruce Willis describes the director as a genius because he actually writes original material rather than remakes (!) and various talking-heads, including William Peter Blatty, discuss the reality of ghosts. The deleted scenes include an extended ending - a redundant snorer that the director claims is his favourite moment, proving that even the greatest helmers sometimes have off days. A word of warning, though: owners of earlier Region One or Two discs may experience déjà vu, since none of this material is original. But if you haven't yet bought a copy of Shyamalan's creepshow, this blend of the two is the definitive edition.
