The Talented Mr Ripley

3

Anthony Minghella's English Patient follow-up is a true jury splitter. Is it an unconventional, character-driven thriller, or a meandering, overblown drama saved only by excellent acting? To be honest, the first half is the former and the second the latter. But still, it's a largely successful affair, thanks to Jude Law's Oscar-nominated performance. And Miles from This Life is in it too...

DVD Extras:

22-minute behind-the-scenes documentary, commentary, interviews, trailers, making of the soundtrack, music videos of My Funny Valentine and Tu Vuo Fa L'Americano.Minghella's commentary is immensely informative, but he's not the most entertaining voice-over man, concentrating more on dry, technical info than amusing anecdotes. The doc, meanwhile, is your standard by-the-numbers behind-the-scener, yet this is still a good, supplement-driven disc. And jazz fans will enjoy the excellent sound quality and the music vids.
